By Allegheny Partners for Out-of-School Time (APOST)

Overview

This workshop provides participants with SEL skills to improve quality of interactions with youth & support youth SEL skill development.

*This workshop is part of a sequence which should be taken in this order:

  1. Foundations & Self-Awareness of Emotional Development.
  2. Cultivating Empathy - March 19th
  3. Emotion Coaching - April 16th

You must take Foundations & Self-Awareness of Emotional Development first.

We strongly encourage registering for and taking all three workshops in a single season, because they build off one another.

Workshop Description:

As adults, our ability to support young people in identifying and managing their emotions starts with our ability to do the same.

In this experiential workshop, participants will deepen their understanding of how people interpret and feel emotions; how they personally experience hot buttons and emotional activation; as well as explore self-regulation. Time will be spent considering the ways our own emotional self-awareness can influence our work with young people, and identifying techniques for modeling empathy and emotion management in programming.
