Foundations of Reflexology Certification (Level One)
Overview
Foundations of Reflexology Certification (Level One)
Teacher: Brittany Smith
8.5 Hours (9:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
A full-body reset starts from the soles.
Step into the healing world of reflexology with this foundational Level One Certification. Learn how the feet act as energetic maps of the body—and how applying gentle, intentional pressure to specific points can support relaxation, balance, and overall wellbeing. This course blends clear instruction with plenty of hands-on practice, giving you the skills and confidence to offer a grounding, restorative reflexology within your current wellness practice.
Target Audience: Designed for anyone called to holistic healing—Reiki practitioners, yoga teachers, sound healers, massage therapists, wellness professionals, or curious beginners. No prerequisites required. (You will be practicing with partners and working directly with feet.)
Certification Focus: To provide a solid introduction to reflexology theory, technique, and application. You’ll learn how specific points on the feet correspond to the body’s systems, and how activating these points supports relaxation, circulation, and the body’s natural healing response.
You’ll explore:
– History and foundations of reflexology
– Anatomy of the feet
– Reflex point mapping
– Thumb-walking and pressure techniques
– Structuring a full sequence
– Safety, hygiene, and contraindications
– Energy flow and mindful touch
– Effective client communication
What will students be able to do after the training?
Graduates will be able to confidently offer a basic reflexology sequence for relaxation and wellness (feet only). You’ll be prepared to incorporate reflexology into existing modalities—such as Reiki, yoga, massage, or sound healing—in personal or professional practice.
About Certification & Ohio Reflexology Law
In the United States, including Ohio, reflexology is not licensed by the state and there is no governing body that regulates practitioners. At the time of this writing, Ohio does not issue a state license or certification for reflexology. There is no reflexology license available through the state or the Ohio Medical Board. While national organizations set professional standards, national certification is voluntary and typically requires several hundred hours of training. Our Foundational Reflexology certification is an introductory training, created to teach foundational reflex points, techniques and sequence (feet only) that can be integrated into complementary practices such as Reiki, energy work, yoga, and holistic wellness sessions.
This training is not intended to qualify participants to practice reflexology as a standalone profession, but rather to enhance existing offerings.
Want to Go Deeper?
For students who feel called to expand beyond the foundations, our Reflexology Practitioner Certification (Level Two) is the natural next step. Level Two is designed for graduates of Foundations of Reflexology who want to deepen their skills and confidently offer reflexology as a standalone, full-session service. This advanced training builds upon foot reflexology and expands into organ systems, resting points, hand reflexology, and a complete professional foot sequence, along with session structure and flow. If Level One introduces you to the language of reflexology, Level Two teaches you how to speak it fluently—holding intentional, methodical sessions that support the whole body. In Ohio, Reflexology may fall under massage therapy law unless practiced under the state’s reflexology exemption. Practitioners do not need a massage therapy license when reflexology is practiced correctly, meaning:
· Work is limited to the feet, hands, and/or ears
· Only reflex point pressure is used (not soft tissue or muscle manipulation)
· Reflexology is not marketed as massage therapy
· Client materials clearly state that “Reflexology is not massage therapy”
This exemption allows reflexology to be practiced legally in Ohio without a massage therapy license when these guidelines are followed. To be eligible to sit for national certification in reflexology, the American Reflexology Certification Board requires that you have at least 110 hours of classroom instruction in reflexology. At the time of this writing, national certification is voluntary and not a requirement. This will be discussed further in class.
