Forefront Suicide Prevention LEARN® Training for Higher Education Webinar

Course Description:

Many of us have confided in others during dark times and vice versa. But it can feel awkward, if not downright frightening, not knowing what to do when a student or a peer shows suicide warning signs. Developed by Forefront Suicide Prevention at the University of Washington, you will learn a five-step process using our LEARN model (based on best practices outlined by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA)) to help you talk with someone you’re worried about, learn if they are considering suicide, and take early steps to keep them safe.

Learn specific skills for suicide prevention in higher education:

• Learn about unique challenges and risk factors students in higher ed face.

• Explore the public health issue of suicide and why people may consider dying by suicide.

• Understand the importance of conversations about wellness and suicidality in reducing stigma and increasing connection.

• Identify available resources and recommend appropriate resources for a wide variety of scenarios.

Webinar Objectives:

• Explain the public health issue of suicide & why people consider suicide

• Identify, understand, and be ready to support someone who may be at risk for suicide using Forefront's LEARN model

• Apply the LEARN steps in a practice scenario
