We'll wander the ecologically diverse paths seeking out specific flowers, branches, seeds, roots, leaves, and fungi to learn as you begin your own foraging journey. Led by foraging teacher Heather Flournoy of Wild Nearby, we’ll talk about identification techniques, conservation, and commonly encountered plants. Ideal for those beginning their foraging journey or seeking to deepen their connection with the natural world.

RAIN DATE - Saturday, June 28.

Heather Flournoy is an avid foraging, wild herbalism, self-reliance, and foraging-with-horses teacher. She grew up first on a ranch in northern California and then a farm in upstate NY. Her young life was spent immersed in nature and grew into a lifelong passion for the environment. She is the founder of Wild Nearby and of the Wild Roots Initiative of the nonprofit D.I.G. Farm.

Heather's love for wild foods and medicines expanded as she studied with foragers, herbalists and healers. She now enthusiastically shares her knowledge of wild found foods and medicines with those drawn to this vital knowledge. She leads a monthly Foray & Potluck, gives lectures and leads foraging walks in the greater NYC area. Her special blend of joy, practicality and spiritual insight brings an opportunity for participants for new insight and awareness.

Heather has the Wild Mushroom Food Safety Certification for 5 northeast states and has 25+ years experience in natural health, healing, and foraging. She's currently obsessed with the subtle nervine power of the lowly pineapple weed. Connect with Heather on Instagram @wildnearby, find her schedule on www.WildNearby.com and on the Wild Roots pages of www.DIGfarm.org

The Untermyer Gardens Conservancy is dedicated to the revitalization of Samuel Untermyer’s once great gardens, now a City municipal park in Yonkers, New York. Working with the City of Yonkers, the Conservancy will showcase exuberant horticulture in the magnificent landscape designed by Welles Bosworth in 1916. An emphasis on the lives of Samuel and Minnie Untermyer will deepen the appeal and meaning of these gardens for all people.
