In a basement bunker outside of Boston, MA, Flying Vipers create dubwise music on an econo cassette machine. Live, they are a 7-piece unit with soulful vocals, blazing horns, bubbling keys and heavy drum & bass. Their love of Jamaican and UK 70’s roots and dub is their north star, but eclectic crates of records and a couple decades worth of DIY punk shows bleed through on tape and on stage.
The Vipers will be celebrating the release of their second album of 2025 (the year of the snake). In April they launched 'Off World' on Easy Star Records, which has been getting consistent airplay on the BBC (via David Rodigan and Don Letts), and KEXP. Bandcamp called it “a psychedelic dub masterpiece” and WBUR dubbed it "one of the most unique and memorable Boston reggae records in recent memory." Their new album released in October, 'World Inversion', finds Flying Vipers reconstructing 'Off World' in both strange & familiar ways, including a guest spot from Mission of Burma's Roger Miller.
The Revolutionary Snake Ensemble is a funk/street beat improvisational brass band performing a unique blend of original and traditional music. Saxophonist/composer Ken Field‘s group is on the march, spreading the gospel of groove far and near. Using the raucous rhythms of the New Orleans brass tradition as a launching pad, the Boston band has forged a volatile and unbridled sound.
"Touches all the right cornerstones of jazz, but also funks my socks off." - WKDU, Philadelphia
"Ken Field's Revolutionary Snake Ensemble have been joining the New Orleans brass band tradition to vanguard jazz, swinging NOLA funk, second-line street music, blues, and much more ... A band at the height of their powers ... a harmonic sophistication that should be the envy of most jazz and brass band musicians"AllMusic.com
