About this event

  • Event lasts 7 hours
  • UNDER 18 WITH PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN
  • Free venue parking

Recent flooding has left a significant amount of trash along the banks of the Floyd Branch Reservoir. Even though this reservoir is NOT open to the public, we think it deserves to be clean and beautiful for the wildlife in the area so we're organizing a clean up day with special permission from the county. ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO SIGN A LIABILITY WAIVER.

KAYAKS & CANOES

Much of the trash can be retrieved from the bank, but some places are easier to access via boat. We have 3 regular kayaks, 1 tandem kayak, and 1 canoe that will be onsite for helpers to use. We will also have life jackets which must be worn at all times while in the boats. You are also welcome to bring your own boats and life jackets. We will be working with Get Outside Ky if more kayaks are needed.

PARKING & SHUTTLE

Because this isn't a public lake, there isn't a parking lot and the roads must be kept clear so ALL VEHICLES will be directed to park at HomeGrown HideAways and we will shuttle attendees to the site. You do not have to stay the full day. You can plan your schedule around the shuttle times if you only have a couple hours to spare. If you are bringing your own kayak, we will have a designated spot for you to drop it off at the reservoir before you go park your vehicle.

The shuttle schedule is as follows:

  • 10am - depart the farm (please be at the farm no later than 9:45)
  • Noon - return to farm for lunch and restrooms
  • 1pm - depart the farm
  • 3pm - drop off/pick up at the farm
  • 5pm - return to farm

SAFETY & PREPARATION

The Red Lick Volunteer Fire Department will have first responders onsite and will be loaning us trash grabbers We will have trash bags and gloves available as well. Please be advised that this is an un-maintained wilderness area so you are likely to encounter things like poison ivy, ticks, snakes, snapping turtles, and other inherent dangers. Please dress accordingly which generally means pants, long sleeves, closed-toe shoes, bug repellent, hats, sunblock, etc. Your safety is your responsibility. We'll have a roster for checking in and out so that we can be sure no one gets left behind. We highly encourage the buddy system as well.

FOOD, WATER, & RESTROOMS

Water will be provided both at the farm and at the reservoir, but please plan to pack a lunch/bring snacks. We will take a lunch break from noon to 1 and eat under the Pavilion at HomeGrown HideAways. This is also where you'll be able to use the restroom as there will be NO RESTROOM available at the reservoir.

FREE TENT CAMPING AVAILBLE

REGISTERED attendees can choose to tent camp at HomeGrown HideAways on Friday and/or Saturday. NO PETS/ESAs are allowed on the farm due to livestock and resident animals. There are other lodging options available, but those will need to booked online through Airbnb. You can see what's available and make your reservation HERE.
