About this event

Science & Tech • Science

Past participants learned why these pests are tough to manage and how they spread, sustainable ways to protect the home, garden and the local environment, and how to collect and submit pest samples the right way (it’s easier than you think!).

Taught by the University of Florida agents, specialist and Doctor of Plant Medicine students, this workshop will feature both indoor learning and outdoor, hands-on activities to build your confidence and skills. In addition to meeting new people and improving diagnostic photography skills, participants will explore identification methods and how to report invasive plant pests and how to harness beneficial insects to keep harmful ones in check (yes, nature can help!), and more.

Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just dipping your trowel into the wildly abundant world of Florida's insects (yes, including the lubber grasshopper—basically the sumo wrestler of the bug world), we've got a fun, relaxed, and informative workshop planned to help you navigate the buggy spectrum—from the benign to the beneficial to the downright destructive—in your home landscape.
