This is more than a class—it’s rest as ritual and resistance, an artful act of reclamation, and a collective invitation into radical ease.

Each workshop is part of a larger constellation of community yoga installations I’ve created in partnership with public and cultural spaces. These experiences offer immersive, thematic journeys through movement, meditation, and sound, designed for beginner to intermediate levels.

Workshops are documented through video, audio, and surveys, with participants’ consent. Presence implies permission to be recorded—unless otherwise requested.

Your support of this work creates ripple effects in my larger rest work and helps to make my installations more affordable for people who otherwise would not be able to benefit from my rest work otherwise.

Alexander Shelton is a Queer Trans Non-Binary, Cincinnati native, soundscape rest artist, composer, and healing practitioner whose work moves at the intersection of sound, liberation, and rest. Traveling the world to collect the textures and tones of everyday life, they weave field recordings, ancestral rhythms, and improvisational melodies into immersive meditative experiences.

Their sonic palette includes over thirty Afro-Indigenous instruments gathered across continents—alongside piano, voice, and live sound layering—to create transportive sound environments that blur the boundaries between ritual, performance, collective healing and social change.

Rooted in more than 14 years of experience leading yoga, somatic, and wellness practices, Shelton's art invites the body to soften and remember itself. Each class, sound bath, or installation becomes a living ceremony—an intuitive conversation between movement, music, and rest. Their ongoing rest installations are expansive sensory sanctuaries designed to challenge the weaponization of productivity and reclaim leisure as a site of resistance and repair.

A child of Cincinnati’s rich musical lineage, Shelton draws inspiration from artists and thinkers like Alice Coltrane, Solange, Sun Ra, Nina Simone, Fela Kuti, Brandee Younger, Pharaoh Sanders, India.Arie and Roberta Flack.

Their work bridges the ancestral and the futuristic, the political and the spiritual—creating sonic landscapes that speak to the fullness of Black being. Deeply rooted in anti-oppression practice, Shelton's art is an offering toward Black liberation and, through it, the liberation of all people.

Each vibration, each breath, and each silence becomes a prayer for collective freedom. Through sound, stillness, and movement, Shelton crafts spaces where people can listen—truly listen—to themselves, to the world, and to the infinite possibilities of rest.
