About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Description: When youth turn 18, they become the decision-makers in their adult lives. Notifying students and families, within the IEP meeting at least one year prior to the student turning 18, can often start the conversation as to:

· How will the student make decisions?

· What is needed?

· Are you aware of the changes in the law concerning Less Restrictive Alternatives?

The presenters will talk about how schools can help prepare students and their families for the Transfer of Rights. Topics will include:

· How to determine what a student needs to support their decision making;

· What options are available to provide that support;

· What role schools play in determining and helping to develop decision-making strategies; and

· How an educational representative might be an option for school IEP teams.

This is a virtual event. You will receive a log on link 24 hours before the workshop begins. Please check your email on Tuesday, September 9, for a log on link.
