This class is for ALL AGES and ALL LEVELS. My goal as a flamenco dancer is to welcome you into this world so that you can understand the basics of Flamenco rhythm and what you're seeing when you visit a flamenco show, or communicate with musicians anywhere in the world.

. ..

One of the most important roles in a Flamenco performance is that of a Palmero (the hand clapper). YES, you heard correctly! You won't ever see a flamenco show without one or two people in the back clapping their hands. What they are doing is called making Compás, or in other words, controlling the rhythm of the dance so that the singer, guitar player, and dancer are all on the same page. This important role sounds easy, but there is an art to clapping your hands in Flamenco, and that's exactly what you will learn in this workshop.

Ever wonder what's happening when you watch a live Flamenco performance? Most Flamenco Tablaos are improvised, which is the beauty of this ancient art form. In this workshop, you'll learn Flamenco Compás and Palmas (rhythm and clapping). Once you have the basics of rhythm, we'll show you some codes between musicians, dancers, and palmeros that happen during a live Tablao and put it to the test with a flamenco dancer and a flamenco guitar player!

Bienvenido!

It's a foggy Saturday night in Sevilla and you've just stepped into El Camerino. A flamenco guitarist is playing while a dancer rehearsed her steps. The curtain behind them is open revealing the other dancers backstage preparing for the show. You feel like you've been granted access to a moment that typically isn't share with the audience, you feel like you should leave, but the music, the dancer and the scene have you mesmerized. You sit down and the next thing you know, you're drinking a red wine, the theater is full, and the show has started. You know that you're experiencing something special, a magical portal where anything is possible.

Come and experience 'Cuentos de Camerino' and leave Sevilla having a story to share... or not.
