Only The Wild Ones and Dust & Grooves present - Five Records A Music Exploration Series with The Gaslamp Killer

With Vol. 1 complete, The Gaslamp Killer goes deeper into his collection. Five Records traces the influences that shaped his ear, from European soundtrack culture to the modal traditions tied to his Syrian, Turkish, and Moroccan roots. Each session becomes a conversation between cultures and the ways GLK carries these sounds into his own work.

Vol. 2 Eastern Grooves Turkish Arabic and International Beats

For our second volume, GLK turns his focus eastward into the Turkish, Arabic, and global rhythms at the core of his musical DNA. He guides the evening through essential records from Les Mogol, Zafer Dilek, Ananda Shankar, Elias Rahbani, Gabor Szabo, and Sven Wunder, artists who expanded the exchange between Eastern and Western sound worlds.

The session explores the lineage of Western musicians absorbing and reinterpreting Eastern modalities. The Beatles and the sitar. John Mahavishnu McLaughlin and jazz fusion. Gabor Szabo and modal improvisation. The psych leaning grooves of Dungen, Khruangbin, and Sven Wunder. Together they show how global sounds evolve through new hands and eras.

The evening includes:

• Intro to genre, context and key figures

• Five Records, deep listening

• Behind the Beat, sampling and reimagining

• Interpolation, GLK reworks these sounds live

• Spotlight on a contemporary artist
