Do I have to register ahead of time?

Accepted Answer

No. There is no pre-registration. You register the morning of each event at each park. Registration opens at 7:30am and will continue until about 9:30am.

Question 2

Can I still fish if I show up late?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can still register for each event up until about 9:30am. The actual tournament is from 8a-10a so that means you just have less time to fish and less chances to win the Most Fish Caught for your age group.

Question 3

Does this event cost anything?

Accepted Answer

No, this event is absolutely FREE to you. Also, if you are one of the first 75 to register the morning of the event you will also receive a FREE T-shirt and medallion to wear during the event or after. What a great way to kick off a Saturday morning with family and friends.

Question 4

Can I use my own fishing gear?

Accepted Answer

Yes, this is Fresh Water Fishing and it's also a catch-n-release during the event. No casting nets are allowed. You must catch your fish using a fishing pole (fishing line with a hook) to be counted.

Can I use a Casting Net?

Accepted Answer

No, you must use a fishing pole for this event. In order for a fish to be counted to your fish count, it must be caught by you on a fishing line with a hook.

Question 6

My child is too small-young to reel in the fish....can I help?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can assist your registered child in reeling in a fish. We ask that you fish WITH your child and NOT for them. Children's attention span can be limited at times. If they are  not fishing, that is okay. Hopefully they'll come back to it before 10am when the event is over.

What type of fish can I expect to catch?

We have a variety of fish that are caught but mostly catfish and bream/sun fish, then bass, crappie and Tilapia as well.  On occasion you may also snag a turtle or even a walking catfish.

What is new this year?

Accepted Answer

We have increased our age limit for the first time in the history of this event. We are not allowing youth up to 15 years old to enjoy some youth fishing with us. So, those 13 years old that would have aged-out are still welcome to return!

Blanchard park 9/6: 140 registered & 154 fish caught.  Barnett park 9/13: 104 registered & 45 fish caught. Bear Creek park 9/20: 95 registered & 320 fish caught.
