2025 First Serve Day of Service

Our fourteenth Annual Day of Service will be held on SUNDAY, September 7, 2025.

First Congregational Church of Hudson leads the effort to organize hundreds of volunteers to work on projects in partnership with its community partners in the North Hill community of Akron. Projects inlcude painting, gardening, deck building, window washing, storage organizing, a bike rodeo, a soccer clinic, meal preparation, staining, rock painting, teacher workbook prep, and many more.

Who can participate?

Everyone! Projects are designed for families and people of all ages and abilities.

Where do I park for the Sending Service?

Handicap parking is available in the back lot of the 915 N. Main building. All other cars should use on-street parking, the CVS parking lot, the Akron Public Library, or the Hennessy-Bagnoli-Moore Funeral Home.

How will I get to my project site?

You will receive information from your project leader closer to the Day of Service. However, everyone is encouraged to gather at the Sending Service for the day’s kick- off event. Following the service, you will head to the project sites in North Hill.

How will I find out more specific information about my project?

Once you register, your contact information will be sent to your project leader. Your leader will contact you with the details closer to the actual date.

What should I wear?

First Serve T-shirts are provided for all registered volunteers. Please be sure to provide your size on your registration form. T-shirts will be available at the Sending Service. Please be practical; dress in layers, wear sunscreen, and be prepared for a variety of conditions.

What should I bring to the worksite?

In most cases, supplies will be provided. For some projects, you may be asked to bring project- specific supplies. If that is needed, your project leader will let you know before the actual date.

Will there be food?

Yes! Coffee and donuts will be available before the Sending Service. Then, First Serve will host a hot dog picnic lunch at 915 North Main.

What happens if it rains?

This is a rain or shine event!
