We are excited to have you join us for the first annual convening of the Public Interest Tech University Network on October 6 and 7, 2019 at the Georgetown University campus in Washington, D.C.

As esteemed guests of the convening, we hope that you will participate in the exciting events planned over the two days. We ask that you please register by September 25 for each event you plan to attend so that we can properly respond to space and catering requirements.

Programming is as follows:

Welcome Cocktail Reception and Dinner: Oct. 6, 6:00-9:00pm

Riggs Library, Healy Hall

The cocktail reception will give presidents, provosts, and funders the opportunity to meet with network practitioners and other experts. Mike Froman, Vice Chairman and President, Strategic Growth for Mastercard; Cecilia Muñoz, Vice President for Public Interest Technology and Local Initiatives at New America; and Journalist Kara Swisher will engage in a fireside chat during a seated dinner following the cocktail reception. Anne-Marie Slaughter, CEO of New America, will moderate the conversation.

Morning Plenary Session for Funders and Institutional Leaders: Oct. 7, 10:00am-12:00pm

Fisher Colloquium, Rafik B. Hariri Building

Presidents, provosts, and funders will have the opportunity to hear from practitioners and strategize with one another in a closed door conversation. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

PIT-UN Challenge Year 1 Grants Announcement and Star Panels: Oct. 7, 1:00-5:30pm

Rafik B. Hariri Building

During this public-facing portion of the day, year one grant recipients will be announced. In addition, two insightful panels will be held focusing on the role of technology in society.

The first panel, Technology, Race, and Our Future, will feature:

  • Ava DuVernay, Filmmaker

  • Latanya Sweeney, Professor, Harvard University

  • Darren Walker, President, Ford Foundation

  • Moderator: Alvaro Bedoya, Director, Center on Privacy and Technology, Georgetown Law Center

The second panel, a Bipartisan Tech Policy Conversation, will feature:

  • Noah Joshua Phillips, Commissioner, Federal Trade Commission

  • Geoffrey Starks, Commissioner, Federal Communications Commission

  • Moderator: Manoush Zomorodi, Journalist

Thank You Reception: Oct. 7, 5:30-7:30pm

Leavey Center Terrace

This closing reception will give convening attendees the opportunity to network and mingle and allow prospective University Network members to ask further questions and establish connections.
