Whether you heat with wood or just love the crackle of a good fire, Firewood Fundamentals will give you the skills and confidence to handle the whole process safely and efficiently. We’ll start with the basics: identifying common local firewood species, understanding which woods burn hot or clean, and learning about moisture meters and storage for maximum efficiency.
Then we’ll head outside for hands-on practice with axes, mauls, wedges, and other tools available right here at the Asheville Tool Library. You’ll learn proper stance, swing, and safety techniques for splitting logs and making kindling.
This class is perfect for beginners wanting to learn the ropes or seasoned choppers looking to sharpen their technique and tool knowledge before winter. Come ready to work and go home a little stronger—and a lot more confident—with your firewood prep.
