About this event

Spirituality • Unaffiliated

As we gather around the fire in community, we will have just shifted our clocks from daylight savings time. Shadows will draw closer as the afternoon light fades. Samhain, the ancient Celtic festival that marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, will have just passed. In that time of bonfires and celebrations, the veil between life and death was said to be thin and ancestors were honored.

In the northern hemisphere, we are moving into literal darkness, a time when Earth rests. Like ancestors of old, we huddle around the fire seeking warmth and comfort. And perhaps we wonder: how might we find warmth and comfort as winter draws near? How might we share our light with others?

Join us for a time of conversation and reflection at the firepit near the retreat center. (If it's raining, we'll begin our time in the lower level of the retreat center.) We will follow a simple rhythm of introductions to the theme and each other. Then you'll have the opportunity for a 30-40 minute silent wander among the trees or perhaps to simply sit in quiet reflection as the flames dance. Then we'll share what we have noticed and close our time together.

Bring your folding chair unless you prefer to sit on the benches, your journal, and water bottle. If it feels right to you, you are welcome to bring a short poem, reading, or a bit of music on the topic. We will receive optional donations via cash, check, or Venmo for the cost of the site rental.

Please register. It's free. You'll receive an email with more updated information just ahead of the gathering and be notified should there be any changes.

Church of the Wild ~ Two Rivers is an always forming community of like-hearted souls, meeting in the midst of and drawing inspiration from the living Earth. Our intent is to deepen our connection to the sacred by being more fully present, open and available in each moment. We learn from the earth and trees, the waters and sky, and from all living beings, human and more-than-human.
