About this event
W ill you join us in reclaiming JOY?
Do you live in a fat* body?
Are you lonely, exhausted, and/or stressed trying to navigate family, friends, and/or health systems focused on weight?
Want to build resilience against fat-phobia and start enjoying your life now instead of being pulled into the vortex of diet culture (which is particularly strong this time of year!)?
Metrowest Nutrition and Therapy is dedicated to providing people with nourishment beyond nutrients.
Our team members, Samantha and Megan will be hosting a virtual peer support group for people in fat bodies to come together to create a supportive community where people of all ages and gender identities can together share their lived experience of being in a fat body.
This webinar is a chance to get to know them and see if this space is for you!
Group Facilitators:
Samantha Millette, LICSW
Sam (she/her/hers) is a fat-positive, Health at Every Size® aligned licensed social worker and psychotherapist who is committed to helping individuals move towards body liberation. She specializes in eating disorders and helps individuals heal theri relationship with body and food. Sam came to this work through her own lived experience in a fat body. She has seen how powerful and important community and connection is in this work and hopes to create a safe container for folks to find that in this group.
Megan Gammerman, MS, LDN
Megan (she/her/hers) is a fat-positive, anti-diet, Health at Every Size® aligned Licensed Dietitian and Nutrition Therapist who centers her work in conversations around dismantling the oppressive structures that have served to create discriminatory systems that pertain to body size diversity and health. Her commitment to her work is in part fueled by her lived experience as a healthcare provider in a fat body. Megan is hoping to facilitate access to community, care and resources in a space that can reinforce a celebration of life at a larger size.
*DISCLAIMER We use the word “fat” here as a neutral descriptor of a person’s body. Just like we would use “tall” or “short” to describe someone’s height. We use the words “fat” and “thin” to describe the spectrum of shapes and sizes. It’s akin to curvy, plus-size, ample, large. It is not a “bad” word, an insult, or reference to a person’s character. Using this word to describe a body is a bit of a radical move for people, to reclaim and reframe a word that had previously elicited so much shame. We recognize there are people in this world who use it as an insult or a derogatory term. But as a weight inclusive practice with a strong social justice lens, it’s our effort to create a shift in power.
