Find Waldo Local is a fun and impactful way to introduce young people to the value independent bookstores and other local businesses bring to their community. We are excited to partner with Candlewick Press and American Bookseller's Association for the hunt for the iconic Waldo.

Where’s Waldo? In Royal Oak, of course!

The iconic children’s book character in the red-and-white-striped shirt and black-rimmed specs is visiting 20+ local businesses, including The Caboose, throughout our community this July. ​

Anyone who wishes to participate can pick up a “Find Waldo Local in Royal Oak!” stamp card, which contains the names of all the participating sites; with each Waldo they spot, they can get their card stamped or signed by the participating shop.

Waldo has also misplaced his Magnifying Glass in The Caboose, so eagle-eyed hunters can find that as well! ​

The first 125 players who collect store stamps/signatures from at least 10 different businesses and bring their passports in to The Caboose get a Waldo Sticker, a $1 Off coupon for a WALDO book.

If you collect at least twenty stamps/signatures, take your stamp card to The Caboose to get a sticker and a coupon, PLUS be entered in a drawing for a deluxe Waldo prize pack during our Find Waldo Local 2025 Party on August 2nd.

Prizes include gift cards to local businesses, gift baskets, and an assortment of Where's Waldo? books! ​ ​ Those present at the party will get a preference for the drawing. If we have leftover prizes, those who complete the challenge but can't be present will also be eligible!

​ The hunt begins on July 1, 2025! ​

Team play is acceptable, but prizes, other than stickers and coupons, are single. ​ Find Waldo Local is a free, family-friendly summer activity and a wonderful way to support local businesses and the Shop Local movement. ​ There is no charge to participate, and the hunt lasts for the entire month of July.

The search ends on July 31. Plan to attend the Waldo grand celebration from 11-1pm and prize drawing at 12pm on August 2nd at The Caboose!
