Welcome to FILMMAKING FOR TEENS! Are you a young Spielberg in the making? Join us at 122 Western Avenue, Lowell, MA, for an exciting 2-Day workshop (Saturday & Sunday)where you'll learn hands-on, the ins and outs of writing a story, drawing a storyboard, acting in and filming your own movie. Overview:

A fun, hands-on filmmaking workshop designed for young creatives interested in storytelling, photography, acting, directing, and editing. Campers will learn the fundamentals of filmmaking using DSLR cameras and work together to create a short film.

Students will:

  • Gain basic technical and artistic filmmaking skills
  • Understand how lighting and sound affect mood and storytelling
  • Create a story concept and develop a script
  • Draw a storyboard and plan a shot list
  • Act and shoot a short film collaboratively with peers
  • Work in small teams to complete a group film project

Day 1: Photo/Film Basics

  • Introduction to photography and video basics
  • Audio recording: microphones and Foley techniques
  • Lighting setups for different film styles
  • Hands-on practice with gear (camera, lights, mics)
  • Story concept creation and development
  • Role assignments (director, camera operator, sound, actors)
  • Storyboarding and creating a shot list
  • Character building and scriptwriting
  • Team rehearsal for shooting day

Day 2: Filmmaking Day

  • Filming scenes with teams
  • On-location shooting with guidance from instructors
  • Complete a very short film in one day.
  • An overview of the editing process

What age group is best for this workshop?

We teach all ages, but this workshop is focused on ages 10 -14.

Do I need any photography or filmmaking experience to attend?

NO not at all - but it helps with the whole process and you can help others, too.

Organized by

Mr. Langdon is a natural collaborator, teacher, educator, and mentor. Years of experience as a owner/photographer, photojournalist, filmmaker, photo-educator, and sales/business professional. He has experience for delivering enlightening and fun presentations. Twenty years of experience, ten years in community journalism for regional media organizations, real estate firms and educational divisions. Mr. Langdon holds a Massachusetts State teaching certification. Mr. Langdon is a Technology & Media Arts teacher at the Sullivan Middle School in Lowell, MA.
