Film Screening of Bird: Not Out of Nowhere with Special Guest, Chuck Haddix

6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Admission is Free with Registration

To celebrate Charlie “Bird” Parker’s birthday (August 29), Kansas City PBS and The Museum of Kansas City present Bird: Not Out of Nowhere, a documentary highlighting Parker’s formative years in Kansas City and his enduring influence on jazz. Featuring rare archival footage, live performances by local musicians, and commentary from jazz historian Chuck Haddix, the film traces Bird’s rise from a young saxophonist in Westport to a bebop pioneer.

Haddix—curator of the Marr Sound Archives, host of KCUR’s Fish Fry, and author of Bird: The Life and Music of Charlie Parker—will lead a discussion following the screening.
