Event description

Description

Successful innovators spend as much time understanding the people they are designing for, as they do the technologies they’re using to build innovations (Scott Berkun).

Every action is a clue to user insight. This 3-hour field trip will change your perception about how to view behaviour and the conclusions you draw. Better observation skills using ethnographic methods have an impact on everything we do - be it as reseachers, designers, entrepreneurs or even in our day to day dealings with people

SHOPPING FOR CLUES is a 3-HOUR field trip into Singapore's largest street market in the art district (the Bugis market). We will immerse ourselves into the sights and sounds of this iconic market, talk with people, apply some of the observation techniques we learn and then sit down to collate our learning.

What we will do:

  • Introduction and objective setting (15 mins)
  • Introduction to the tools for observation (15 mins)
  • Preparation for field study (15 mins)
  • Field excursion to observe and talk to people and observe behaviours and interactions (75 mins)
  • Decoding information gathered in the field to develop insights (45 mins)

What we will learn:

  • Acquire methods to study human behaviour and develop empathy
  • Decode unstructured data to generate insights for effective innovation
  • Uncover needs.

Who is this for:

  • Innovators/ entrepreneurs / designers/ UX folks / creatives
  • Anyone who wants to learn about “in context” research
