Field Trip at Old Princeton Landing
Overview
When the Half Moon Bay band Field Trip plays a gig, the sound of their loud rock ‘n’ roll and punk songs travels beyond the stage. Late-arriving guests might hear Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll” or the expert drumming and hard railing of the electric guitar behind Nirvana’s “Breed,” well before laying eyes on the performers.
So things can become especially disorienting when the audience sees four early adolescents producing the rich sounds on stage.
Field Trip, which formed in April 2024, is composed of born-and-raised Half Moon Bay teens.
Cassidy Karkowski, a 14-year-old who often dons big sunglasses and high-top Converse, sings lead vocals with the mature and rich sound one might expect from someone far older.
Coco Deval, 15, plays bass with a quiet confidence that disguises her complex riffs that round out the band’s sound.
Vivienne Branham, 15, has a particularly old school look. She plays a bright pink electric guitar, and her orientation toward humor comes through, even on stage where she sneaks smiles or chuckles at her bandmates as they play.
Charles Branham, the youngest member at just 12, hits the drums with expertise and a pace that often leaves audience members staring, wide-mouthed, as he plays.
