Field to Vase: Seasonal Floral Arranging with Vanessa Meredith

Come spend the evening in the Peace Garden learning the ins and outs of floral design with local flower farmer and owner of Modern West Floral Co.: Vanessa Gilbert Meredith.

In this class you will learn:

• Foundational principles of design (triangulation, rule of thirds, scale and depth)
• Basic color theory
• Sustainable mechanics
• Post harvest care and techniques for longer vase life
• How to choose the appropriate vessel for your design

All fresh florals will be provided by Modern West Floral Co and each student is asked to bring their own vessel with an opening of 6" or less. Bringing multiple vessels is encouraged as we will learn the advantages and disadvantages of size and proportion.

Vanessa Meredith; Modern West Floral CO.

Vanessa is owner of Modern West Floral Co. With a background in landscape architecture and design she moved to Colorado's western slope in 2012 to gain experience growing food and managing livestock. She spent 3 years at Sustainable Settings Ranch in Carbondale, 2 of which she managed the market garden and small CSA. She returned to her landscape architecture background and was brought on as a landscape designer at DHM Design. With a background in native plants of the western slope she wanted a way to showcase the beauty of the natural landscape and use her design background. In late 2015 she co-founded Modern West Floral Company. She lives on the flower farm in Silt with her husband and son. Modern West provides seasonal cut flowers to the Roaring Fork Valley and Colorado River Valley May-October.

In addition to our standard pricing, we offer two alternative rates designed to honor the diverse financial realities of our community:

Generosity Rate: If you have the financial capacity to contribute beyond the standard rate, we invite you to choose the Generosity Rate. Your support at this level directly funds need-based access for others, allowing us to offer below-cost participation to those facing financial hardship. This rate may be right for you if you:

• Own your home and live without financial worry
• Have investments, savings, or financial security
• Can easily access funds in times of need
• Are moved to make this experience more accessible for others

Need-Based Access Rate: If you are experiencing financial hardship or limited income, please consider the Need-Based Access Rate. These spots are made possible by the generosity of others and reflect our deep commitment to equity and belonging. This rate may be right for you if you:

• Struggle to meet your basic financial needs
• Are facing housing, employment, or income instability
• Live paycheck-to-paycheck and lack financial reserves
• Are navigating other significant life challenges
