Field Experience: Management Techniques on Reclaimed or Restored Mine Lands

Heartland CISMA is planning a tour of the Invasive Plant Management section, in Homeland, for a tour.

This adventure will involve looking at management techniques on reclaimed/restored mine land. We will go over herbicide application, burning/post burn response, native plant ID/planting, wildlife habitat, and long-term management goals. The tour guides are full of knowledge and have been involved in this field for over 30+ years. This will be a nice learning experience for people dealing with the same habitat, and others interested in this process.

When?

The trip is scheduled for November 20th, starting at 10am. We expect to finish by 2pm, but it will depend on conditions and the amount of questions.

2001 Homeland-Garfield Rd

This is South of Bartow, just off HIghway 17, if you've never been.

What to bring!

• Field clothing: Please wear appropriate clothing for field work. Long pants, sleeved shirts, boots, hats, sunscreen, and insect repellent are highly recommended. Be advised that areas may have standing water but we don't anticipate needing rubber boots. We recommend smooth clothing that is seed and burr resistent. Think windbreaker rather than a sweater, if it is cold.
• Food and drink: Food and drink are BYO. Please bring enough water to stay hydrated and enough snacks to stay full. Lunch will not be provided.
