The FHWA Work Zone Safety Program will be hosting a webinar on work zone crash data collection, reporting and safety analysis. Please join us on December 5th from 1:30 – 3:00 PM EST.

Conducted jointly by the Wayne State University-Transportation Research Group and the University of Missouri, Columbia this webinar is geared towards stakeholders involved in the crash data collection process. Major topics include:

  • Work zone crash data elements used in crash analysis
  • Work zone crash data collection process
  • Value and utilization of various data elements
  • Sources of crash databases
  • Work zone crash analyses methods
  • Procedure for analyzing work zone crash data using the Empirical Bayes Method

Webinar presenters include:

Dr. Timothy Gates, P.E., Associate Professor, Michigan State University. Dr. Gates’ research areas include safety and operational impacts associated with raising speed limits, driver behavior at signalized intersections, safety impacts of intersection sight distance, safety performance and economic assessment of roadway design features, safety and operational impacts of highway rumble strips, highway work zone safety and operations, and pedestrian behavior and safety. Dr. Gates was an instructor for a national work zone training program and is a licensed professional engineer in Michigan and Wisconsin.

Henry Brown, P.E., Research Engineer, University of Missouri, Columbia. Mr. Brown’s research interests include traffic operations, transportation safety, highway engineering, transportation planning, stormwater management, pavement management and access management. Prior to joining MU, he worked for 14 years as a highway engineer for the Indiana Department of Transportation. At INDOT, he prepared design plans and contract documents for a variety of road projects and handled project coordination with many different stakeholders. He is a registered professional engineer in the states of Indiana and Missouri.
