Event description

Description

Exchange ideas on the most significant properties of bridges and how they can be measured. Then challenge yourself to build bridge prototypes using basic classroom supplies and using tools such as CAD software and 3D printing to design and test the optimized structures. This workshop will include a field trip to an MIT lab, as well as a visit to the data showcase taking place at the Museum.

Join us for Feb Fest, our annual celebration during February school vacation, with daily hands-on activities, workshops, and more. Inspired by our exhibition Big Bang Data, this year’s theme is big data. Join us for a fun-filled week!

Middle school students are invited to spend one or two days at the MIT Museum combining their creative and technical skills to find solutions for engineering challenges. Each day will give students the chance to problem solve, collaborate, and create as they learn mechanical, programming, and electrical engineering skills.

Space is limited to 20 middle school (6th - 8th grade) students per day. Students will be required to show proof of grade. In an effort to serve more students, participants are limited to a maximum of TWO workshop days. (You must register for each workshop independently).

Attendees should bring a bag lunch that does not require refrigeration and their signed liability form. Individual students only; no groups please. Students may arrive at the Museum no earlier than 9:30 a.m. and must be picked up by 3:45 p.m.

Every year, during the Massachusetts school vacation week in February, the MIT Museum celebrates National Engineers Week with daily engineering-specific activities, workshops, and demonstrations led by MIT students.
