Once Upon a Time in a Forest unfolds as a modern eco-fable where idyllic Finnish landscapes are shadowed by the threat of destruction. The film traces Ida, a 22-year-old environmental organiser, as she builds a movement that confronts entrenched industry and generational divides. Suutari’s attentive lens captures both the sensuality of the forest and the urgency of its defence, reminding us of the stakes for future generations. By placing activism within poetic imagery, the film highlights how youth leadership can turn love of place into collective strategy.
