About this event

We will start off the "Make and Take" Shiitake Log inoculation workshop by learning mushroom basics. What they are, how they grow, where to grow them best and how they are a healthy food source to incorporate into your diet. Shannon Phillips, of Winding Brook Farms, will guide you through the process. Please bring a charged or corded drill from home with a 5/16th bit plus a hammer to facilitate with the completion of the inoculation. Everything else will be provided for you: spawn plugs, seasoned logs, wax for sealing and directions. After creating the logs, you will be given a tour of our cozy farm including the mushroom teaching path.

Frequently asked questions

How many people can attend with one ticket?

Each ticket covers admission for one adult (13+). This workshop is not suitable for children twelve and under.

What should I bring to the workshop?

The workshop will be held on our pavilion near the back of the property. Here are some suggestions: a charged drill (corded one actually works best), your own beverages and a snack, bug spray, weather gear (depending on what will be happening outside) and a friendly spirit.

Where should we park?

We have some parking to the left of the driveway when you enter the farm (spaces marked by cones). After that, collect your stuff and head on back to the pavilion.

What happens if the workshop is cancelled due to weather?

The "Make and Take" Shiitake Log Inoculation Workshop is an outside event. It will only be canceled in case of rainy weather. If we have to cancel your tickets will be applied to any of our other events or equal value of mushroom produce.

What happens if, after buying a ticket, I can no longer attend?

We understand that "life happens," however we cannot offer refunds at this time. If you have to cancel your ticket fee will be applied to any of our other events, equal value in mushroom products.

Is the venue able to accomodate people with movement impairments?

That depends on the individual. The ground is not level and has areas that might be difficult to navigate. Our restroom is located in our camper up three steps. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to email us at windingbrookfarms@gmail.com

May dogs attend the workshop?

There are farm animals on the property so please leave your furry friends at home.
