October marks Disability Employment Awareness Month

A time to celebrate the invaluable contributions of people with disabilities in our workplaces and communities. This year, we’re turning our focus to faith and interfaith communities—exploring how inclusion and service can create meaningful opportunities for everyone to share their gifts.

Unemployment and underemployment among people with disabilities often stem not from a lack of skill, but from the way opportunities are structured. Faith communities have a unique chance to model inclusion by recognizing and nurturing exceptional talents that may not fit the “average” mold. When we intentionally create accessible service and leadership roles, we not only empower individuals but also strengthen our collective sense of belonging.

Throughout history, sacred stories have celebrated leaders who lived with disabilities and whose experiences shaped their wisdom and service. Their examples remind us that every person’s gifts have a place in our communities, and that true belonging happens when everyone has the opportunity to contribute.

What to Expect

Join us for a heartfelt online conversation about practical ways to make faith spaces more inclusive and accessible.

Led by Rev. Kaye Love, D. Min, MSSW/MBA, whose background in employment services, special education, and ministry provides a unique and insightful perspective, we’ll explore what accessibility looks like beyond ramps and restrooms. Together, we’ll discuss simple adjustments, creative partnerships, and meaningful dialogue that can transform communities into places where gifts are recognized, talents are developed, and inclusion becomes a lived expression of faith.

This event will take place on Google Meet—come as you are and join from wherever you are.

This is for you if…

  • You’re a faith leader, volunteer coordinator, or community organizer who wants to make your spaces more welcoming and inclusive.
  • You believe everyone has gifts worth sharing and want to help people with disabilities contribute fully to community life.
  • You’re looking for practical ideas to go beyond compliance and foster genuine belonging.
  • You’re passionate about equity, access, and inclusion as spiritual and community values.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to have you join the conversation. Let’s learn together how to build communities where everyone belongs, serves, and shines.
