About the Event

On September 12, ICE agents killed Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, a 38-year-old father of two, in Franklin Park — just minutes after he dropped his kids at school.

Governor Pritzker calls for a “factual accounting,” but ICE and DHS will never expose their own crimes. History shows: justice comes only through mass struggle, not government promises.

In 2014, it was mass protests forced the release of dashcam footage of Laquan McDonald’s murder. That sparked the #RahmResign movement, toppling Chicago’s police chief, state’s attorney, and Rahm Emanuel himself.

From Rodney King to Freddie Gray, the system protects killer cops. The lesson is clear: only mass movements win justice.

Join Socialist Alternative on October 15th for a conversation featuring Cedric G. Johnson, UIC professor and author of After Black Lives Matter + Alondra Garcia, Milwaukee Teachers Union (MTEA) member and President of immigrant rights organization Voces de la Frontera, where we’ll discuss facing state repression and violence — and how students and workers across Chicagoland and the Midwest can fight back.
