Event description

Description

Facilitation skills for board members and executive directors

Much of the work of a nonprofit is done in meetings: board meetings, retreats, committee meetings, brainstorming sessions, strategic planning and budgeting. But sometimes these meetings are less effective than you hoped for. Anyone can learn to be a better facilitator. The result? Meetings that are more enjoyable, where more gets done.

  • Learn how to design meetings and group work.
  • Learn how to gather information and ways to generate ideas and creative thinking.
  • Learn techniques for guiding planning and decision-making.
  • Practice methods that increase participation, minimize conflict, and keep everyone on track to achieve shared goals.

Trainer Annie Paulson is a faculty member in the Business Management Department at Edmonds Community College. She teaches courses including strategic planning and facilitation. Prior to working in education, Ann worked for 15 years in management. Ann has an MBA and a PhD in Educational Leadership from the University of Nebraska. She has volunteered for 501 Commons for years, working as a consultant on strategic planning, including fundraising and volunteer programs. She currently volunteers facilitating board retreats for 501 Commons clients.
