About this event

It's 1915 and Anthony Patch, son of Wall Street tycoon-turned Prohibitionist Adam J. Patch, is having one last hurrah. Drink along with him as the party of the decade unfolds in real time, all right in front of your eyes.

The show is performed in a real speakeasy. It's not marked or visible from the street. Follow the sign for the "Lower East Side Toy Company", go down the stairs, through the alley, and you'll soon hear the sounds of jazz. And don't worrry, if someone rats on us and the coppers get called....all of the drinks are served in teacups and paper bags. Those proposers of the 18th Amendment won't catch us!

PLEASE NOTE:

Due to the nature of the show, you are encouraged to walk through the space and/or stand. There are about 50 available seats, first come first serve. If you require a seat, please let us know and we will be sure to accomodate you. Finally, we request that audience members do not speak unless spoken to by an actor.

THE BROKEN LUTE is based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's second novel, The Beautiful and Damned.

Written by: Brooke di Spirito

Featuring: The Sparrows cast and band!

Frequently asked questions

How do I find this place???

See description -- on Norfolk St. you will find a small gate that says "Lower East Side Toy Company". Open the gate and do not be alarmed by the dark stairs! Walk through the alley and to the back. You'll find it then :)

What is this? A play? A musical?

A site-specific play with music! Our jazz band will be playing throughout. Some people call this style of theatre "immersive". There are multiple scenes happening all around. Feel free to follow whichever characters seem most interesting to you.

What is The Beautiful and Damned?

Fitzgerald's second novel. You should read it. Or, come see the show. That will probably take less time.
