ODU Art Education Preservice teachers present their annual Community Art Classes.

"Exploring Your Emotions - One Thread At A Time"

This is a three-day class, taking place on Saturdays November 7, 14, and 21. Time 10AM-12PM. One-time ticket purchase for all three dates

Only available for students aged 8-11.

Children learn how to communicate and interact with their world every single day. Sometimes they can feel happy and other times they can feel confused and afraid. This Saturday Morning Art Class will allow them to explore their emotions, gain experience working in fibers, and find ways to express themselves through the arts. Emotion, identity, and expression will be addressed by investigating artists that are featured in the Chrysler Museum of Art such as Nick Cave and Mark Rothko. Through weaving, felting, and a little bit of stitching and sewing, they will be able to creatively express and process the emotions that they might be feeling during these confusing times. Fibers is a very tactile experience; it is all about touch and textures. This class will guide them to connect their senses to their emotions using symbolism, color, and fiber arts.

For local students, Art kits will be offered for pick up at the Chrysler located in Norfolk, Virginia and a supply list will be provided for those out of state.

Registration fee $10

By registering for this, you agree to your commitment for all three classes. Each class builds on the knowledge of the previous one, so attendance is important. You only need to purchase one ticket to reserve your student's seat at all three classes.

This is a private online event. Only registered students may attend the classrooms when in session. If special accommodations are necessary, please let us know.

Once classes are full, students will be put on a waiting list. Once sessions begin workshop changes are not permitted.

By registering for an ODU Community Art Class, you agree that your child may be photographed. Images used will be for Old Dominion University preservice teachers’ professional portfolio development, promotional materials, and future research activities by ODU students and faculty.
