Exploring Social Media, AI, and its Impact on Therapeutic Considerations

Overview
The recent uptick in using artificial intelligence (AI), ChatGPT, along with constant exposure to social media, has observably affected clients’ symptoms, as well as their relationships to self and others. This training will offer information on what research says and exploring the pros and cons of using social media, AI, and other online influences. Training will explore the impact of these platforms on mental health symptoms and relationships and offer ways to support healthy boundaries around social media and AI use.
Objectives
- Increase understanding of impact of AI and social media usage on mental health symptoms, barriers, and progress.
- Increase awareness and understanding of what healthy social media usage could look like and tools to implement (parental controls, proactive steps, etc.)

Presenters
Janaí Farr is a licensed professional counselor (in training), in the State of Wisconsin for Professional Services Group, Inc. She received her Master’s degree in Behavioral Health Psychology from Carroll University. As a trauma informed therapist, Janaí seeks to continue to find and apply the most effective, empowering, and authentic ways to consistently support children, adolescents, and adults through individual psychotherapy. She is also client-centered in her approach, which can assist clients in increasing their self-esteem, autonomy, and ability to heal in a safe therapeutic environment.
Angie Kuffel is a licensed professional counselor in the State of Wisconsin and the Intern and Clinical Supervisor for Professional Services Group, Inc. She received her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and Counseling Education from the University of Colorado- Denver. As a previous teacher, Angie has since sought out opportunities to find effective, creative ways to continue to support children and adolescents (and their caregivers and teachers) through School Based Individual Therapy.
