About this event

Join Docent Naturalists Nick Yatsko, Kate Bauer, and Mary Brunkhorst on a moderately-paced hike at this seldom visited, upper area of this preserve. Following the Cielo and Coho Vista Loop trails, you’ll take in picturesque views, stroll by a recently restored 165-year-old barn, and visit an old-growth redwood tree. Pack a snack or lunch. Reservations are required and will be accepted on or after October 22 at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) and close November 4 at 2:00 p.m.

Where to Meet:

Meet at the Allen Road Permit Parking Area. From I-280, take CA-84 west for 6.8 miles. Turn right on CA-35/Skyline Boulevard and travel 2.3 miles. Turn left onto Bear Gulch Road. After 0.6 miles, turn left onto Allen Road for one mile. Continue onto Kebet Ridge Road for 0.3 miles. The preserve will be on your right. Note: Vehicle access requires a parking permit, which the docent will have. There is no parking available outside of the preserve gate on Allen Road.

Organized by

Created in 1972, the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District is an independent special district that helps plants, animals and people thrive throughout the greater Santa Cruz Mountains region by preserving a connected greenbelt of more than 65,000 acres of public open space. These diverse and scenic landscapes, from bay wetlands to redwood forests and coastal grasslands, host an incredible diversity of life, making our region one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots.

Midpen’s purpose is to create a regional greenbelt of unspoiled public open space lands in order to permanently protect the area’s natural resources and to provide for public use and enjoyment. On the Coast, Midpen has an expanded mission to acquire and preserve agricultural land of regional significance, preserve rural character and encourage viable agricultural uses of land resources.
