Event description

Description

This event is being run as part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science

This event is aimed at supporting A-Level Psychology teachers to deliver fun and effective research methods teaching. After a short welcome, the teachers will listen to three short talks covering recent research on maths anxiety, providing effective feedback and increasing student engagement and learning. The focus will be on how the research evidence can be applied within A-level classrooms and will aim to provide practical and useful suggestions about what works. After these talks hands on demonstrations will provide the teachers with practical experience of a range of equipment used in social science research. For example, measuring brainwaves with EEG testing, assessing visual attention with eye tracking and a driving simulator, which tests how good your reactions are behind the wheel. This will enable the teachers to use their first-hand experience of this equipment to inspire and enhance their own teaching.

The event will also include time for the teachers to network with one another and with academics from Staffordshire University. To conclude, the teachers will make pledges about how they will apply the knowledge that they have gained during the event to their teaching. These pledges will be written on postcards which will be posted to the teachers at the beginning of the spring term.

Teachers travel expenses to attend the event will be reimbursed to the maximum amount of £10 per teacher. Free parking and refreshments are included.
