Experimental Lettering: Drawing as Writing, Writing as Drawing

In this workshop, we’ll take inspiration from the tradition of Chinese ink wash landscapes—where artists, viewers, and collectors added signatures and seals, layer by layer, across time. This shared chorus of marks offers a way of seeing that differs from Western traditions.

We’ll use traditional paints and unconventional materials (tea leaves, stones, flowers) to “write” by drawing, stamping, and collaging. Each participant will develop unique ways of making letters through gesture and play. Together, we’ll assemble our collective voices into a Latin alphabet, printed as a decorative piece of text for everyone to take home.
