Clinician Self-Care & Suicide Prevention Awareness

That human beings sometimes commit suicide is a fact. As mental health professionals we are required to understand suicide risks and do our best to avert such events as adeptly as we can.

I hold acute awareness that medical and mental health clinicians are human and have a very high incidence of suicide and suicidal ideation, as do first responders trained to intervene in grim and often ghastly situations - firefighters, police, EMTs.

When I talk with colleagues about the fact that our colleagues’ suicide risks, and our own, need to be a topic for suicide prevention education, I often get a response like, “I’ve never heard a presentation on clinicians’ suicide risk.”

I’ve been developing a 3-hour CE presentation on this topic for 3 years and hope to have it online in September 2025. In this brief lunch and learn presentation, I will offer a smattering of data, some personal stories, share assertions reflected upon in-depth, and offer resources.

We will engage in discussion about medical and mental health clinicians’ suicide risks and self-care strategies, as well as those of others working in this muddy, hazardous space.

Join us online for a thoughtful presentation and dialogue on a challenging and important topic.

See you soon!

Frequently asked questions

Are there CEU's available for this event?

This is an opportunity for learning from professionals who use the Existential-Humanistic approach in their work, and for connecting with other EH and EH-curious professionals. There are no CEU's offered for this event.

Do I need to have studied or read about Existential-Humanistic teachings prior to attending?

No, everyone is welcome, wherever they are at on their E-H journey. E-H blends nicely with many other healing modalities and is more than a set of techniques, but rather a world view and an approach to dealing with the many complexities of being a living, changing, striving human.
