Description

Curator Iona Fergusson introduces the artists behind Girl Gaze: Journeys Through the Punjab & the Black Country, UK and Asian Women & Cars: Road to Independence and will take you on a guided tour.

Girl Gaze is a photographic exploration of the Punjab and diaspora communities in the Black Country through the voices of young girls and women. Bringing together newly commissioned work by four female artists: Jocelyn Allen (UK), Jennifer Pattison (UK), Andrea Fernandes (India) and Uzma Mohsin (India), the exhibition explores diverse themes regarding gender, identity, patriarchy, tradition, culture, memory, place, belonging and difference that shape the lives of women in both countries. Curated by Iona Fergusson. Produced by Creative Black Country.

Asian Women & Cars: Road to Independence is a multimedia installation by Dawinder Bansal that celebrates the lives of first generation South Asian women living in Sandwell. Using oral histories, photographs and sound, Dawinder Bansal explores the relationships between the women, their cars and their new-found independence.
