About this event
This training will equip clinicians with the knowledge and skills to accurately evaluate patients presenting with comorbid anxiety disorders and substance use by recognizing overlapping symptoms and differentiating primary from substance induced anxiety.

After attending this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify reasons why patients with anxiety disorders use substances
- Describe why patinets with substance use develop anxiety
- Identify way to differentiate primary anxiety disorders with substance induced anxiety
Course Outline
12:00 pm: Introduction
12:10 pm: Review epidemiology of anxiety disorders
12:15 pm: Review screening tools for anxiety disorders
12:20 pm: Discuss reasons why patients with anxiety use substances
12:25 pm: Discuss brain changes resulting from substance use which lead to anxiety
12:30 pm: Discuss history taking techniques to differentiate primary versus substance inducded anxiety
12:40 pm: Case discussion and Q&A
About the Presenter
Dr. Enrique Oviedo is a board-certified addiction psychiatrist who currently serves as medical director for substance use disorder treatment at Catholic Charities. He has published research in the Journal of Addiction Medicine, Psychiatric Services, and Addiction. Dr. Oviedo has been with Catholic Charities for 13 years and currently sees patients at the Lansdowne, Millersville, and Dundalk offices.

This course is provided free to current Catholic Charities of Baltimore employees and for a fee to non-employees. Registration and additional information, including cost is available via Eventbrite.
