Event description

Description

On September 12th 2018 the European Commission released its proposal for discontinuing seasonal changes of time, repealing Directive 2000/84/EC.

We, CalConnect, are concerned about the short notice of the proposed timing of this change. Practical experience from such changes in the past shows that such changes pose risks to the accuracy of stored time-related data and schedules (meetings, appointments, flights, transit schedules, etc.). While customers need adequate time for budgeting, procurement, and installation of upgrades or replacements, vendors need both time for adequate product planning and implementation as well as market and regulatory pressure for compliance.

On October 30th 2018 we called on the EU to reconsider the timeline for the proposed seasonal time changes.

As part of our 44th conference (hosted by Google) we organise this public workshop in Zürich that aims to bring together industry experts and policy makers to see how to coop with this and future timezone changes. Everybody who has an interest and meaningful opinion about this topic is invited.

We set up a public mailing list to discuss the challenge and best practices relating to timezone and DST changes world wide at http://lists.calconnect.org/listinfo.cgi/timezonediscuss-l-calconnect.org
