A regular fixture on NPR, college, and independent radio, Loop 2.4.3 is still best known for their live performances. Touring in support of a new album, Time-Machine_music, the Brooklyn-based artists are landing here with Special guests including bass virtuoso and Broadway veteran, Steve Gilewski.
I met LOOP 243 back when I was hosting Sounds of Hope at the Potter's House in DC. Now Jeff and I are excited to have Thomas Kozumplik make his magic here at Stillwaters...
Where are you from? New York, New York (Brooklyn to be precise)
What do you play? I perform and teach jazz improvisation (Ancient / Tribal / Futurist). I use percussion instruments (all shapes and sizes of drums, shakers, xylophone), my voice, and your local musicians.
Where and with whom have you performed? I've performed from stages from Brooklyn to South Korea, Jazz Festivals from London to Sydney; clinics and residencies from Cornell to UC Berkeley; the Bang on a Can Marathon, the Learning Channel, NPR, and yes, I've played Carnegie Hall!
I've been honored to play with Grammy-winner Dave Samuels, MacArthur Fellows John Jesurun and Dafnis Prieto, and indie-rock artists such as The National and Sufjan Stevens (who played here at Wolf Trap this summer).
Who has Influenced you? Robert Hohner, J.S. Bach, Jimmy Hendrix, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, and many, many more...
Praised for "taut compositions with a stunning improvisational sense" (Time Out Chicago) and "intricate, energetic performances" (New York Times), Loop 2.4.3's compositions are rooted in the classical chamber music tradition with strong improvisatory jazz and rock foundations. Incorporating a full range of traditional percussion and innovative electro-acoustic instruments, voices, strings, and found sounds; the music embraces the notion of journeyed story-telling -- creating a kind of alternate universe.
Loop 2.4.3's concerts and recordings are an immersive experience.
FAQs
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
All ages are always welcome. Children with a paying adult are always free. You may even bring your polite pets on a leash (April-October, when we're outside under the tent).
What can/can't I bring to the event?
PLEASE BRING (if you come at 6 pm) 1) your favorite beverage and/or dish to share at our potluck supper 2) your favorite SONG or story or poem to share at the open mic (as you wish) 3) Cash (to pay at the door and/or take home CDs and other treats). You DON'T need to bring dishes or chairs, or even an umbrella--we've got you covered...come rain or come shine :)

We hope to see you at another time.
Stillwaters is open for hosting other events or meetings. We are also open for you to spend time resting at Stillwaters as an individual (or with your family),
at our bed and breakfast (or just for the day).

HISTORY OF SUPPER AND SONGS

Supper and Songs is a house concert series hosted by Stillwaters Foundation volunteers Mary Shapiro, Jeff Wolf and friends to "build community and create Peace through Music". We have events at least once a month which include a potluck SUPPER (at 6 pm) and SONGS by professional touring musicians (concert time depends on the day). We end with dessert and a fun, informal open mic (where anyone who wishes shares poetry, stories and songs). "Tickets" are donations to the performers and are available on line or at the door. All ages are always welcome, and polite pets on leash when we're outdoors (April to Oct). We provide chairs and potluck supplies and Stillwaters' big beautiful event tents provide shelter (so the show goes on, rain or shine). Questions? Call Mary at 540-364-1739.
