This is the September meeting of Connecticut's Equity and Ethics Community of Practice. It is open to anyone interested in this topic.

During this session, we will be talking about the new CT statute that will standardize the collection of race, ethnicity, and language data across state agencies, as well as some of the institutions that provide services for the state. This change will have implications for reporting by non-profits and for using state data. During this session, we will have guests from Connecticut’s Office of Health Strategy present about Section 11 (p. 14) of Public Act 21-35 and discuss the process they are currently undertaking to make recommendations for standardization of this data collection. You will have a chance to ask questions and learn more about how it may affect your work. We hope you’ll join us for this unique session.

About this group:

We are a group of data users in Connecticut who are supporting one another as we work toward more equitable data practices. We focus on racial equity explicitly but not exclusively.

Some of the topics we talk about include:

How can we make sure we don't make certain groups invisible through how we disaggregate our data?
How can we learn to focus our attention on the strengths, rather than the deficits, of groups we are seeking to serve or support?
How can we learn from the people who we hope will benefit from our products or services about what their data means to them?
How can we help the institutions that we are part of to be trustworthy so that people will trust us with their information/data?
