About this event

A Homi Bhabha & Cockcroft Walton Lecture in partnership with the Institute of Physics and the Indian Physics Association, hosted at the University of Glasgow.

Join us for a landmark evening with Professor Rupamanjari Ghosh, as we explore how equity, diversity, and inclusion can transform science. This prestigious lecture honours the legacy of visionary physicists and marks the culmination of the United Nations–declared International Year of Quantum Science and Technology.

About the Talk Women are reshaping science, yet invisible barriers persist. Drawing on her journey as a physicist and founding Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ghosh reflects on the power of belonging, leadership, and institutional change. She will explore how inclusive practices fuel innovation, why unconscious bias undermines progress, and how equity—not sameness—can unlock individual potential and academic excellence.

About the Speaker Professor Rupamanjari Ghosh is a leading physicist and academic strategist whose career spans quantum research, institutional leadership, and national science policy. She served two terms as Vice-Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University Delhi-NCR, held senior roles at Jawaharlal Nehru University, and earned her PhD in Quantum Optics from the University of Rochester as a Rush Rhees Fellow. Her Indo-French collaborations were rated ‘Excellent’ by IFCPAR, and she played a key role in shaping India’s National Quantum Mission. Her leadership has been recognised with the Stree Shakti Science Samman, CV Raman Lecture Award, and India’s Changemaker: Woman of the Year 2022. She is featured in UC Berkeley’s Career Journeys of Diverse Leaders (2024) and serves on multiple advisory boards across India and the US.

Whether you're a scientist, student, policymaker, or advocate for inclusive leadership, this event offers a rare opportunity to engage with transformative ideas at the intersection of quantum science and equity.
