Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Self-Assessment Toolkit

This workshop series introduces the Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) Self-Assessment Toolkit (SAT), developed by Archives West Midlands. This toolkit will be embedded as part of Archive Service Accreditation, from April 2026.

The workshop will explore the value of conducting an inclusion self-assessment within an archive service, and familiarise attendees with the content of the toolkit. Attendees will understand how the toolkit fits into Archive Service Accreditation, and its wider role in developing archive services. The workshops will include a briefing, discussions and a Q&A. It will be an interactive session with plenty of opportunities to apply elements of the self-assessment tool to individual service situations.

The workshops will be led by Elizabeth Oxborrow-Cowan, archives consultant and Archives West Midlands trustee, together with the Accreditation team at The National Archives. There will be a chance to hear from Jim Ranahan, who inspired and created the SAT in his work with Archives West Midlands.

Who should attend

The workshop is aimed primarily at archive services which are accredited or working towards accreditation, as it situates the EDIB SAT within the standard and explains how embedding this toolkit will impact accreditation from 2026. However, the toolkit has much wider application so the content of the workshop will have positive benefits other than completing an application for accreditation.

The session is is particularly targeted at Scottish archives, and we will be joined by colleagues from the Scottish Council on Archives. However, colleagues from archives in Scotland who cannot attend that targeted session, and those in Wales who are not able to join a parallel session running at ARCW, are welcome to book for other workshop dates.

Programme

We will be running five workshops in total on different dates between December 2025 and February 2026. Each will cover the same content so attendees should only book one.
