Overview:
Enteral feeding training - Theory and Practical (3hrs face to face):
This is for staff working in schools with children and young people who have enteral feeding, who are new to feeding or have less than 2 years active experience*.
Training is face-to-face at Appleby Health Centre, Canning Town, London E16 1LQ and will include theory and practical with training equipment.
*Active experience: feeding children and young people on a regular basis consistently.
On successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to feed a child or young person via gastrostomy or jejunostomy device in the school/nursery setting. Devices include PEG, PEG-J, balloon gastrostomy and transjejunal devices.
Assessments by special school nursing team will take place locally within schools, after staff attend the training.
Course Requirements:
- Must have a child currently attending school/nursery with an enteral feeding tube who requires a feed/water/medication during school/nursery hours.
- Must complete the enteral feeding workbook and achieve the practical competency to achieve certification.
- Must receive refresher training every 18 months.
