"Enter the Faun" Screening
Event Information
Description
When New York based choreographer Tamar Rogoff saw actor Gregg Mozgala perform in Romeo and Juliet, Rogoff knew she wanted to cast him in an upcoming dance performance. Mozgala accepted the part despite the fact that he had never danced before…and had cerebral palsy. What happened next was transformative. Over the course of several months, Mozgala went through a physical metamorphosis that changed his body, gait and balance. And Rogoff found new meaning in her own body as well. The story of their work together was captured in the award winning documentary, Enter the Faun. Rogoff & Mozgala will be in Madison on Wednesday, September 7 at 4:30 pm at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery for a free public screening of the movie, followed by a Q&A and optional workshop.
Enter the Faun has made Mozgala, who was born with cerebral palsy, an inspiration for physicians, rehabilitation specialists, actors, dancers, people with disabilities as well as those who love to see the impossible become possible. [Insert a quote from Mozgala.] Rogoff, whose work with Mozgala was made possible by a Guggenheim Fellowship, has taught many of the techniques she learned throughout North America as well as Europe
“Enter the Faun gives us a convincing demonstration that each and every body is capable of remarkable transformation,” says Gordon Greene, the Head Priest at the Spring Green Dojo, the event’s sponsor. He values the work of Rogoff and Mozgala because he shares their commitment to teaching body intelligence, something best taught him by his youngest son as he grew up understanding how to deal with his own cerebral palsy.
In addition to the free public film screening and workshop on September 7, Rogoff and Mazgala will facilitate workshops on the UW-Madison campus for students and faculty and for actors at American Players Theater in Spring Green.
The free screening of Enter the Faun is open the public. It will take place in the main auditorium at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery at the UW Madison Campus on Wednesday, Sept. 7 beginning at 4:30 pm.
