Who says that chromatic music cannot be beautiful, expressive, humorous, or even alluring? Schoenberg’s Notturno contains lyricism that is similar yet different to Takemitsu’s Le son calligraphié I. The conversation between different characters in Carter’s Mosaic can also be heard in Seeger’s Music for Small Orchestra, yet both composers treat music conversation in their own ways.
