Enhancing Language in Science Workshop Session 2

Enhancing Language in Science Workshop Session 2

By Lake County Office of Education

Overview

How can science teachers elevate language support for all students as they implement NGSS phenomena based instruction?

Join Rosario Morris (multilingual specialist) and Jennifer Kelly (science educator) for a phenomenon-driven, three-session professional development series designed to strengthen language-rich science instruction through an intentional focus on teacher clarity, language objectives (English Language Arts (ELA) and English Language Development (ELD) in the NGSS), and a variety of high-leverage strategies.

Each session includes guided practice, collaboration time, and strategies that can be implemented immediately in the classroom for all educators.

All sessions take place at the Taylor Observatory in Kelseyville from 4:30 to 6:00 PM

  1. Speaking and Listening in Science (February 23)
  2. Reading Informational Texts in Science (March 16)
  3. Writing to Show Understanding in Science (April 20)

Snacks and materials will be included.
