ENDLESS COOKIE (2025)— A Totally Unique New Animated Documentary!

By The Philosophical Research Society

Overview

A brilliantly funny, tender & vibrant shape-shifting animated doc where family memories and Indigenous stories collide with everyday chaos!

7th House & Animation Breakdown are very proud to present a special new film that holds the rare distinction of being both one of the most unique animated features and documentaries in recent memory: Seth and Peter Scriver’s ENDLESS COOKIE (2025)!

A striking, humorously shape-shifting animated feature eight years in the making, ENDLESS COOKIE is an unruly, impressionistic fever dream stitched together from memory, storytelling, and the constant interruptions of everyday life. Moving between Downtown Toronto’s Kensington Market and the remote Northern Manitoba First Nation community of Shamattawa, the film unfolds as a loose chain of overlapping anecdotes and digressions, each story tugging the next somewhere unexpected. What begins as an attempt to record a single tale quickly spins out of control—overtaken by family members, neighbours, television chatter, and the ordinary chaos of lived experience.

At the center of the film is the relationship between Seth, a Toronto-based animator and carpenter, and Pete, his older half-brother—a First Nations carver, poet, mechanic, hunter, and storyteller living in Shamattawa. Built from years of recorded conversations, ENDLESS COOKIE animates Pete’s voice as it drifts through stories that are funny, unsettling, and deeply tender: bears lounging at the dump, absurd encounters with the RCMP, a gruesome beaver trap accident continually derailed by whatever is happening in the room, and memories from a sprawling family whose roots stretch back to Toronto. Through Pete’s stories, the film offers a lived-in portrait of contemporary Indigenous life—shaped by community, humor, loss, resilience, and the ongoing realities of colonialism—without flattening it into easy explanation or abstraction.

Seth Scriver’s wholly distinctive animation style is loose, tactile, and gleefully unpredictable—sketchy, rubbery figures that stretch, melt, and snap back into place; colors that pulse and clash; and images that veer suddenly into the symbolic, grotesque, or absurd. Scenes feel hand-built and slightly unstable, with visual detours and non sequiturs erupting mid-story, mirroring both the rhythms of oral storytelling and the distractions, interruptions, and emotional currents of daily life in Shamattawa and beyond.

Part documentary, part family portrait, and part animated riff on storytelling itself, ENDLESS COOKIE speaks openly about race, identity, and the myths people project onto Canada from the outside. Situated within the lineage of animated documentary and diaristic cinema, with echoes of underground comix, the film uses its toonish, hand-drawn animation not to illustrate reality, but to wander after memory, emotion, and the unruly shape of lived experience.

After a blink-and-you-missed-it theatrical release, 7th House is excited to share this special film at The Philosophical Research Society!
